  15. You may not know it, but the future of Global War just changed
  16. forever.

  18. In the beginning of of 1997, Joel Bergen, the original creator of
  19. Global War and Global Backgammon, decided to pass on these great
  20. products to another worthy shareware author so that he could continue
  21. in other aspects of his life.
  22.  
  23. I was very grateful and honored to be the shareware author to have the
  24. the task of carrying on the tradition of one of the world's most
  25. famous doorgames bestowed upon me.
  26.

  28. This upgrade version of the Global War doorgame has been made
  29. available for a few reasons.  Mostly, it serves as a maintenance
  30. release providing only a few minor additions and enhancements, along
  31. with all of the information of the new author's support network and
  32. contact methods.  You can find the changes outlined in the
  33. documentation file named WHATSNEW.DOC.

  36. If you are currently a registered sysop of Global War utilizing the
  37. public beta version 3.0, it is HIGHLY recommended that you DO NOT
  38. downgrade to this version.  Version 2.6 of Global War is an upgrade of
  39. the 2.59 version already available.

  41. The next official release of Global War is planned to be the inter-BBS
  42. capable version 3.0.

  45. laid out by Joel Bergen.

  52. Global War is being distributed in a secured archive form utilizing the
  53. ARJ archiving software (Copyright (c) Robert Jung) for maximum
  54. compression and ease of portability.

  56.      ARJ Security Envelope

  58.      Due to the unsecured distribution method of shareware, the Global
  59.      war self-extracting archive has been archived with the ARJ security
  60.      envelope feature.  The security envelope makes it nearly impossible
  61.      for anyone, other than the original creator of the archive, to
  62.      modify the archive in any manner, thus somewhat ensuring that no
  63.      files will be missing, modified, or infected with a virus.

  65.      Upon extraction of the archive, you should see the following

  106. The Global War archive may be distributed freely in its unmodified,
  107. security-sealed, archived form.  You may freely use, copy, and
  108. distribute GWARV26.EXE provided that no fee is charged for such use,
  109. copying or distribution.  It is recommended and highly encouraged that
  110. you upload the Global War archive to all of your favorite bulletin
  111. boards and on-line services.

  129. As a service to parents, and because I feel that there is a great need
  130. for parents to know what their children are doing in cyberspace, I've
  131. included my own "rating" as to the content of this game.  Please keep in
  132. mind that this rating is STRICTLY my own opinion, and serves ONLY as a
  133. guide for choosing whether or not your children should be allowed to
  134. play this game.  This rating may or may not apply to all children.  In
  135. my opinion, any individual that has been taught the difference between
  136. fantasy and reality should enjoy this game, while at the same time NOT
  137. going crazy with the minute amount of violence portrayed.

  139. I have given this game a rating of "G" for General Audiences.
  140. Conquering the world in Global War only involves "armies" of numeric
  141. values battling against other armies.  Game play can be likened to that
  142. of the game of chess where players conquer other players pieces.

  144. The software as written by myself contains no vulgar language or sexual
  145. connotations.
